Mijas
is situated approx. 8km away from Fuengirola, on
a hill, with a stunning view to the coast. Above
"Mijas" is the "chapel of Calvario",
which is illuminated with floodlight in the nights
und it looks like a chapel in the sky.

In the new "townhall" (Ayuntamiento) you
will get help and information. Here you can get
pamphlets about curiosities in Mijas and around.
A tip for the visitors with cars: Be careful with
parking. The car can be towed off. Behind the townhall
is a parking area.

The lot of carriages offer you a city sightseeing
tour, in which you can inspect the town.

The "market place" must be seen by day
and night. Here you can stay in one of the Restaurants
or drink a coffee in a Bistro. Not far away from
the market place is the" bullring". If
you like to see a bullfight and blood you can enjoy
your feeling.:-(

And
what have you bought? The lots of souvenir-shops
and the designed historical temples of jewellery
must be seen. And so there will be some tourists
who will buy more in this nice town than they normally
want to buy. "Shopping" in Mijas is an
event, you must get the feeling.

You
must walk through the nice alleys in Mijas. Straight
in the nights Mijas is an unforgettable event and
so it would be good to plan your visit also to see
the sunset, and how it is getting night from one
of the beautiful places above the town.

But
there is not only praise for the town. The traffic
through the small alleys and the lots of persons
which have always to look after the cars is at least
not very good.

From
the market place you can reach several Restaurants
which offer a stunning view to the sea and Fuengirola.
Just in the evenings it is fantastic to take a dinner
and to enjoy the view.

In
the midday sun the little alleys are sleeping
and all around you feel the time of the "Siesta",
but in the nights the life will awake again.

In
the modern part of the town "Las Lagunas"
in direction to Fuengirola you will find schools,
departments, hospitals, sports centres and other
building for the general public.
On the other hand in the part of the town "La
Cala", directly situated by the sea, you
can feel the character of an old fishing village.
The beach was awarded with the prize of the "Blue
Flagg" as a clean beach of Europe.

Worthwhile
is e.g. the church "San Sebastian",
which is situated in the centre of the town, also
the valley church (a part of the bell tower),
which was built on the foundation walls of an
old castle, the garden of the wall, "El Compas"
- the grotto of theVirgin of the mountain, and
at least the old town "Barrio Santana"
with the typical andalusian buildings of Mijas.
The
festivals (Ferias) in Mijas will show you the
life and the thinking of the Spaniards, doing
always s.th. for the children.
